Volunteer Opportunities
The work of African Assistance Program greatly depends on the
help of dedicated volunteers. We are currently looking for
volunteers in the following areas:
Administrative Support
Answer phones and perform front-office reception work. Assist
the management staff with calendaring and filing. Open and
sorting the organization’s mail. Running errands to the bank,
supplies store etc. Hours vary usually weekdays between 9 AM – 5
PM.
Community Organizer
Build relationships with the
community served by AAP, local business and organizations,
organize workshops for community education and involvement,
participate in developing a public awareness campaign to reach
out to all stakeholders, maintain relationships with local
organizations and business to gain support for AAP work. Hours
vary including weekends depending schedules typically 3-5 hour a
week.
Community Health Educator
Organize and facilitate community
workshops to educate about dangers of HIV/AIDS, cigarettes,
alcohol and drugs. Build relationships with local community
groups as forums for education. Hours vary including weekends
depending schedules typically 3-5 hours a month.
Mock Interviewer
Assist with work readiness skills by conducting mock interviews
and providing them with encouraging, constructive feedback. As
part of our pool of interviewers, you will be called bi-monthly
to see if interview times fit your schedule, usually Mon - Thu
from 11AM-3 PM typically 2-3 hours a
month.
Computer Lab Assistant
Assist AAP clients with a variety of introductory and
intermediate computer-skills classes and workshops for adults
seeking improved employability. Class times vary, usually
weekdays during the hours of 10 AM - 4 PM. Computer lab
assistants will work flexible hours usually 1-2 days a week for
2 hours at a time.
Job Readiness Coach/Mentor
Work one-on-one with AAP job seeking clients offer support and
guidance in their job-seeking process such as searching for and
filling out job applications, creating resumes and navigating
other support community resources. The volunteer position is a
mentor-type where the coach’s work with a client will include
help with transportation to job site for job applications and
interviews. Hours are flexible usually weekdays between 9 AM - 5
PM typically 3-5 hours a week.
