Where We Came From
One Friday Afternoon in March 2000, the founder – John
Tarley was sitting in his living room, with two ladies from
Africa discussing workplace discrimination, racism and
injustices. As they talked the idea of how they could contribute
by joining the efforts of other anti-racism campaigners was
developed. In April of that same year, AAP was born with African
Workers Center as the first program. African Assistance Program
was incorporated in June of 2002 and obtained tax exempt status.
With its first grant, the activities of AAP's main program -
the African Workers Center (now Community Organizing Program)
began.
Over the years as the needs of the community have changed and increased,
other programs have been developed. We have been growing strong
since and now operate FOUR programs: the Community Organizing, the
Economic Self-sufficiency, the Better Health Alertness, and the
Youth Enrichment programs.
We would like to give Special Thanks to all who have
supported us over the years. We would never have accomplished
what we have had you not stopped by to give us a hand. Thank you
again and again!!!!! |
